CYO Mission Statement
The purpose of the Catholic Youth Organization is to provide the highest quality athletic programs that promote the physical, social, emotional, and most importantly, the spiritual development of our young Catholic athletes. CYO Sports is a youth ministry of the Diocese of Biloxi which enables a partnership of priests, parents, coaches, and adult leaders to support our young athletes as they grow in their relationship with God and in their understanding of the Catholic faith.
More About CYO Sports
We intend to use the framework provided by Catholic Athletes for Christ, or CAC, to Forming Intentional Disciples of Christ. Their mission statement and core values will be a the forefront for how we plan to lead our students, or "Cathletes", and how our mission statement was formed.
More about CAC
Entering the 2024-25 school year, we feel we have a great group of leaders and volunteers in place that can help each sport develop, grow, and eventually help each school prepare students for when they reach the middle school and high school levels.
Scheduling will be provided for each sports season, as well as, training for coaches. We plan to work with the point-of-contact for each school, our principals, and our coaches to work out any issues in the incoming sports seasons.
Locations of the gyms the teams will be playing at, rules for this league, and the schedule will updated TBD.
REGISTRATION FOR BASKETBALL 2025 will open on ______ and close on ______.
REMINDER there is a $__ admission fee to games.
Please feel free to contact your school, or coach with any questions; as well as, the Office of Youth Ministry.
See you in the FALL of 2024 for Cheer!
Registration IS OPEN.
Dates and schedules for the upcoming school year are still TBD.
Cheer is for 1st - 6th grade students. Each cheer team will be determined by the schools. They will correspond with the football teams(tackle and flag) put together this year, as well as, by age groups.
Questions about practice or any other cheer specific questions should be directed to the coach at each school.
Registration IS CLOSED.
Dates and schedules for the upcoming year will be posted soon. Check with your coach if it is not here.
Flag football is for the 1st - 4th grade students. Schools will put together a 1st-2nd grade age group, and a 3rd-4th grade age group. Any schools lacking in athletes for one of their age groups will merge with other teams so everyone interested can be included.
Registration will be billed through FACTS.
Questions about football equipment and other football specific questions can be directed to the coach at each school, or any contacts listed above.
Q. Who can coach?
A. Each team is a direct representation of your school and then the diocese, so we want coaches that your school gives the okay. Each one will need to complete a background check which is available on the site.
Q. Where does the money go from fees?
A. First, the monies should be collected by the school. For each sport we, (CYO Sports) will send to you what the allocation of funds for referees, jerseys, equipment, etc. will be. The point of contact (or whomever your school's principal deems fit) will be in charge of taking care of those details but all monies go through each individual school.
Q. If the sport is already in place and they charge a different amount is that okay?
A. Absolutely. Your school and your team. We only ask that again it follows into the rules. Also if the sport is up and going and always has been then we do ask that the kids get registered the same way, but the monies would have already been collected, so that is fine. Our registration fee is a base fee. Again the monies go to the school.
Q. Can we start practicing?
A. In any sport that we post we should have a start date for practices. Currently cheerleading is a go whenever they are ready. They can coordinate with coaches for football or other sports and plan their schedules accordingly. Now we do encourage each school to reach out to the feeder schools like St Patrick’s, Resurrection, Our Lady Academy, Sacred Heart Hattiesburg, and St Stanislaus. Maybe communicate with them and ask to cheer during some of their events.
We recommend contacting the athletic directors at your corresponding school to get the go ahead. This will also help with the kids transition to those feeder schools later on (and helps with stage fright). As far as flag football goes, this years registration has been extended until September 12th and would normally have had a an earlier start date for practices, but some teams haven’t even been formed quite yet. Once your team is formed they can start practices.
Q. Can my daughter play flag football or can my son cheer?
A. Yes and yes. The only sport that we limit is women’s volleyball. We believe the name will help address anyone’s concern on that one.
Q. What about other sports?
A. We hope to have more sports in the upcoming years.
